Programs, Activities

We get to do fun stuff and activities and we all have somebody in our family who died." Bohrs, 9

Program

Our current program consists of self help support groups for children ages 3 to 12 who have experienced the death of a parent. These groups meet on an ongoing basis twice a month on Sundays. A group for teens who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or best friend also meets twice a month.

An interview with the child or teen and parent or guardian and completion of a registration form is required prior to attendance.

An ongoing support group for young widows and widowers is held twice a month.

All are welcome and there is no charge for these groups. The center relies on donations to support its programs.

Activities

Mary's Place provides a safe, nurturing environment which encourages and supports children as they grieve in ways uniquely appropriate to their developmental stage. Through the use of such tools as art, music, puppets, story telling, sharing, volcano room activities, a lively and fun-filled atmosphere is created where children can not only express their feelings, but can learn coping skills.
